Missa Solemnis in the Elbphilharmonie

The Philharmonia Chorus was proud to have taken part in the opening festival of Hamburg's new concert hall, the Elbphilharmonie. On Tuesday 17 January, the Chorus joined soprano Camilla Nylund, mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly, tenor Klaus Florian Vogt and bass Luca Pisaroni in a performance of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis. The Hamburger Symphoniker was conducted by Sir Jeffrey Tate. The Chorus is shown above performing in the Elbphilharmonie, in a photograph taken by J Konrad Schmidt. German TV coverage of the rehearsal in the Elbphilharmonie can be seen here The Elbphilharmonie, designed by Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron, is in the Hafen City quarter of Hamburg, and it sits on top of an old warehouse building, with spectacular views of the harbour. You can see what a spectacular hall the Elbphilharmonie is here.
